About us

This company was founded in 2012 by a local man. As one of the oldest and most experienced companies here, we know how to create memorable tours.

We have 40+ years outdoor experience in the Tromso area, so we know very well where the nicest spots are, and how to chase the northern lights.

With more than 97 % happy guests since 2012, more than 1800 excellent reviews, and 7 Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence awards so far, it is clear that our guests really enjoys joining our tours.

We at Arctic Explorers have always felt nature as an important part of our lives. The strong attraction we feel towards it, and the feeling of a life under the open sky as a rich life, showed us early on that our passion for nature had to be our livelihood, and this is our guarantee for your memorable adventure. To explore and experience the ocean, mountains, forests and plains in the Arctic with other people, is our joy and our privilege.

Many tour operators focuses mostly on the attractions of Tromso, and the attractions in the city as your most important experience on your trip to the north. Yes, this is all well and good, and you must take some time to see this, but it is not what will give you the strongest and best memories. Our life-long connection with the Arctic has shown us that it is our Arctic landscape with its rich wildlife and its raw nature that is our major attraction. We will take you a little further, and show you our treasures.

We value your safety above all on our trips. Our guides are well trained in first aid, we have solid equipment, and we have good expertise in the use of this equipment. All our guides are also trained by a professional local driving instructor, with special focus on driving safe on ice and snow. We have always with us emergency beacons and satellite telephone when we are without mobile coverage, and we will cancel a trip rather than taking unnecessary risks. We understand that nature decides, and we always explore on team with nature and the weather. You can be confident on your tours with us.

We want you to learn something from being on tour with us. We could have done most of the things for you, but it is limited coping and self-development in that. On our tours we promote teamwork, where those who wish, may help to pack the right equipment, frying fish, read the map, choose the safest route, or to make a bonfire. It is through teamwork and cooperation that truly mastering takes place, and it is through the understanding of nature that your experiences and adventures feels strongest.

In everyday life, you always have something to adapt to. You always have something else around you in constant motion, that you have to deal with. Not much stands still in everyday life. The clock, your job, and the environment around you controls many of your activities from early until late.

In nature it is not so. In nature, the clock will never control your activities. Nature determines when it is best to sleep, when it is best to move, and when it is possible to be at sea. In nature, most of the things you see will be in the same place in a thousand years from now. The waves will probably crash on to the beaches in a thousand years from now. The mountain will probably stand there, just as majestically in a thousand years from now. The birds will probably breed on the same islands in a thousand years from now. Isn`t this close to what we call eternity? Join us and experience eternity, where time stands still. It will be quite an experience.

We include everything required on our tours. We provide good and often typical norwegian food, clothing, equipment, and anything else that is needed. Those who wish, may bring with them their own equipment. We have only quality equipment. We have no hidden costs.

We offer sustainable and responsible tours. We offer tours where our small groups are an essential part of the concept of ecotourism, as small groups influences nature less than large groups. In small groups, the impact on nature are not as big, and we manage to be in nature without disturbing the wildlife unnecessarily. We preserve our natural and cultural heritage on earth, and its rich diversity. We support local people and communities, and we do what we can to ensure that the heritage that will be given to our children may be something we are proud of.

It is therefore natural for us to be a proud member of "The International Ecotourism Society", and with them we combine conservation, communities and sustainable travel.

Ecotourism is defined as a "responsible travel to natural areas that preserve the environment and improve local living conditions."

Ecotourism is about uniting conservation, communities and sustainable travel. This means that those who implement and participate in ecotourism activities should follow the following ecotourism principles:

  • Minimize impact.
  • Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect.
  • Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts.
  • Provide direct financial benefits for conservation.
  • Provide financial benefits and develop local people at various levels.
  • Increase sensitivity to host countries' political, environmental and social climate.
